What is Burning Man Festival?

Burning Man is an annual experiment in temporary community, art, and self-expression held in the Black Rock Desert of Nevada each year on the Sunday before and through Labor Day. Founded in 1986 on San Francisco's Baker Beach, the event has grown into a pop-up city of more than 70,000 participants who build massive art installations, perform, barter, and ultimately burn a giant wooden effigy on the final night. The principles — radical self-expression, radical self-reliance, gifting, decommodification, and leaving no trace — define what makes Black Rock City unlike anywhere else on Earth.
