What is Dinosaur Day?
Dinosaur Day on June 1 celebrates the prehistoric giants that ruled Earth for over 180 million years. Humanity's fascination with dinosaurs dates to 1677, when Oxford professor Robert Plot discovered the first fossil bone — though he mistook it for a giant human's. It wasn't until 1842 that Sir Richard Owen coined the term 'Dinosauria' (meaning 'terrible lizard'). Today, birds are recognized as living theropod dinosaurs, meaning dinosaurs never truly went extinct.
