What is Sleepy Head Day?
Sleepy Head Day is a centuries-old Finnish tradition that pokes affectionate fun at the last person in the household to wake up. Rooted in medieval legend and moved from June to July in 1709, the custom says late risers will be sluggish for the rest of the year. Families mark it playfully with a splash of water, while the town of Naantali holds a famous public ceremony tossing a celebrity into the sea.
