What is World Listening Day?
World Listening Day invites us to truly listen to the world around us — its soundscapes, its acoustic ecology, its quiet and its clamor — not just to one another. Rooted in the World Soundscape Project and first held in 2010, it falls on the birthday of composer R. Murray Schafer, a founder of acoustic ecology. It's a call to notice, and protect, the sounds of our environment.
