What is Palio di Siena?
The Palio di Siena is a historic horse race held twice a year (July 2 and August 16) in Siena, Italy, around the Piazza del Campo. Ten of Siena's seventeen contrade (districts) compete in this medieval tradition dating back to the 13th century.
